Getting Crafty and the Unrelenting Infection

I used to love scrapbooking, but then tiny fingers came along, and the scissors and other tools simply created mayhem when I tried to get anything done. This is why Nolan's baby scrapbook goes up to the ripe old age of Four Days Old. A friend introduced me to digital scrapbooking, and I may never turn back! Here is a page I am creating from Nolan's John Tracy experience:

Nolan is still battling his ear infection. Honestly, I have no idea what the ENT is going to do when we return on September 13 - the potential consequences of this ear infection terrify me. I have to call the office on Wednesday, because that is the date we are supposed to stop using the medication in Nolan's ears. If the infection is still present, I am loathe to stop medicating (if the meds are not eradicating the infection, at least they are preventing its spread). We are due up in Rochester next weekend (Dennis is running in the Rochester Marathon), and I am afraid Nolan's infection will rage out of control if we don't figure something out soon.

Nolan has been fairly accepting of his one-eared status, though he told us the other day, "Maybe we go doctor and doctor fix my ear. Then I have TWO hearing again!" He desperately misses hearing from his right ear: this boy loves his sound!

Have you considered that the tube may be colonized with the fungus and the only way to get rid of the infection is to remove the tube?

I thought about that after our SLP told us of a little girl who had a similar problem. They had to remove the tube to get her well! We see the ENT again on the 13th, but the infection is also in his ear canal, and we can't heal the outer ear, either.

The skin is so raw! This is why they mentioned painting the outer ear canal with Gentian Violet, taking care to keep the stuff away from his perforated eardrum. His eardrum never healed the last time around, so he'll probably have a permanent hole in his eardrum even if they take the tube out- so we don't want the GV to get anywhere near it (the stuff is ototoxic).

That's so sad that he misses his other hearing aid! I can't believe that infection is still hanging on!

There is a cue camp very close to you guys, at least it's closer than Pittsburgh I would think. You should check out the web site!

Hang in there but keep fighting the infection! My son eventually outgrew his recurrent infections and I could not believe the time had come!

Okay, so now I want to make some digital scrapbook pages! That one from JTC is really cute. Could you point me in the right direction?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed on the infection (also keeping my fingers crossed that we finally make some progress on my company letting me use a videophone so I don't have many fingers to spare!). When does Nolan start preschool?

Nolan's infection sounds crazy. I can't believe that it's persisting. I hope it gets resolved soon, so that he can have TWO hearing again. That is just the cutest and saddest statement I have ever heard!

I absolutely love your JTC scrapbook cover. As soon as I opened the post and saw the photo, I felt my heart thud. Ach, I sure do miss our little life there. Time is flying by, but JTC still seems like yesterday!
