Don't Make Me Get the Hat Out, Boy!

And I thought our pilot cap days were over- ha!

Nolan won't leave his right aid in his ear. He constantly pulls it out, hands it to me, and then walks away to continue playing. A few minutes later the left one will come out, but he really doesn't want the right one put back in. I did a listening check and the aids are OK, so I can only hope its a phase he's going through. I really hope he isn't losing more hearing! I doubt it, since he can still hear us with his aids off (we're still audible, but not really intelligible to him with his aids off). He does have a cold, so that could be part of his problem.

Your little guy is adorable--love the pilot hat--how old is he now? I am SO glad you stopped by my blog and commented on Ezekiel's hearing aids. How did you find out about Nolan's hearing loss?

Hi,
That cap is something else. My son Aiden has plagiocelphaly and wears a cranial helmet for now. It has greatly reduced his tendancy to pull the hearing aid out... But that's not going to work forever. Can you let me know where you got his cap? kellyandlauraj.blogspot.com. You could just leave a comment somewhere if you have a chance. Thanks!

Hmm, that little rascal. I'd call and get an appt. w/the audiologist if he's still doing it when his cold goes away. They could at least run a typhanogram and see if there is fluid causing an increase in loss (even if temporary).

Nolan is 14 months old now- growing like a weed! The caps are from Hanna Andersson- they're wonderful for keeping the aids in and the hats aren't too hot for the summer months.

Val, I am a little concerned about the hearing levels. I don't think they've changed due to his response level unaided, but that's what I thought last time and he lost 20dB in one frequency! He has another hearing test on November 20 anyway, so we'll see what happens. I have my fingers crossed for stability. He has PE tubes so those should help with fluid levels!

He may be taking them out if the cold is causing his ears to ache, regardless of his actual hearing level.

Just a thought.

And what an adorable hat! Heck, what an adorable KID!

We have had Grey's hearing aids for about a week now and he always pulls out the right one, never the left. What's up with that? Could it be a bad fit? They look okay to me, but what do I know? Thanks for the tip on the hat, I'll be ordering one right now!

Leah ... I've used this nonstop since you've said it on my blog ... "don't make me get the hat out!" I think it's hilarious! I do truly hope Nolan's aids aren't bothering him though to be pulling it out so often! Great to be back on line reading all my fave blogs!

He is so cute in those hats! There are a handful of 3 year olds in Ethan's class who all wear bilateral hearing aids and none of them have trouble leaving them in. Just keep hanging in there!
